Aphrodite’s Kiss

Rosemary Jenkinson

With these extraordinary short stories, one of Ireland’s acclaimed theatre writers ranges her eye across the attic rooms and public bars of Belfast to the remote snow covered streets of European towns and the desperate heat of the Middle East. 11 tales of broken love and misplaced loyalty, always contemplating the consequences of our human acts.

Funny, scabrous, sacred and profane Rosemary Jenkinson's second collection since 2004 is a welcome addition to her reputation as one of the sharpest contemporary writers around.

Mixed Veg

Sybil Allen and Anne Montgomery

Lifelong friends actress Sybil Allen and textile designer Anne Montgomery have joined forces to publish a stunning new children’s book, Mixed Veg.

Join Tom on a quest around a walled garden and encounter a crop of magical characters. From tour guide Murphy the potato, to Boris Beetroot, Sir Arthur Artichoke, peas-in-a-pod twins Celia and Amelia and Belle the Broad Bean. And perhaps along the way learn “The Secret of Life” and to appreciate a little of what’s good for you.

Sybil Allen’s mischievous, appetising story is complemented by Anne Montgomery’s deliciously ingenious illustrations.

Like the best produce, Mixed Veg has taken its time to come into the world. The book has been 40 years in the making, with the initial manuscript and drawings being drafted in the late 1970s.

Sybil Allen is an actress and writer from Antrim, who lives in London. She co-wrote The Guardian Sword (1970), a story of legend and adventure set in the Glens of Antrim, with fellow actress Roma Tomelty, followed by Lissamor’s Child, a gothic ghost story, in 1973.

Anne Montgomery is an artist and illustrator. During a varied career, she ran a knitwear design business, worked as a textile advisor in Papua New Guinea, and was a senior lecturer in Textile Design at the Belfast Art School. She now lives in Eglinton in County Londonderry in her childhood home (with walled garden).

Bernie McGill

Dark, moving and beautifully written, Bernie McGill’s debut collection of short stories explores the lives of women across the generations. From the storm-battered coastline of the north of Ireland to the sleeping villas of Andalusia, McGill’s characters grapple with the consequences of affairs, bereavement, alcoholism, illness and murder.

Compassionate and quietly powerful, McGill’s stories capture intimate moments of loss, love, and healing in a troubled age.

The Crumblegiant

John McCloskey

Limited edition book by Irish illustrator and animator John McCloskey. One of only 250 copies, each book is numbered and signed by the author.

‘Every day the Crows would attack and scrawk. But that was OK because every day the Crumblegiant would appear and swish them all away into the white clouds… Then one day the giant never turned up…’

Follow Emily on her journey through a unique, beautiful landscape of sheep and stars and fantastical imaginings, as she comes to terms with her own mortality. This moving, powerful book about grief and identity, works equally well for children and adults.

The Crumblegiant began life as an animated film, also by John McCloskey, which was nominated for a BAFTA in 2009.
